TRIP ADVISOR: Rates the Lion and the Rose one of the best Portland, Oregon. Guest review: "Pictures of this lovely old Victorian beauty do not do it justice. From the sidewalk to the corners of the inside one can see and feel it is in the hands of caring people. The owners Dusty and Steve are as amazing as the B&B they so obviously enjoy running. From Steve's delicious breakfasts to Dusty's late night conversations everything they do they do with heart. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and clean, (thank you Russ). Arriving back after a day of sightseeing and shopping the house welcomes you with it's warmth. There are snacks and drinks ready at all times during the day and night and the luxurious towels were a delight after showering in the period decorated bathroom. I recommend this lovely B&B to everyone. A stay at the Lion and the Rose will rejuvenate your spirit and send you home pampered and rested. We hope to make it back to Portland and the Lion and the Rose in the near future."

FODORS.COM: Rated as "Fodor's Choice". This 1906 Queen Anne-style mansion is one of Portland's premier B&Bs and the city's only Victorian one. Oak and mahogany floors, original light fixtures, antique silver, and the coffered dining-room ceiling set a tone of formal elegance, while the wonderfully friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable innkeepers make sure that you feel perfectly at home. A two-course breakfast and evening snacks are served daily, and afternoon tea is available upon request. In a beautiful residential neighborhood, you are just a block from the shops and restaurants that fill northeast Broadway and within an easy walk of a free MAX ride downtown.

AOL CITY GUIDE: Spend a night in a fairytale. The name alone sounds a bit magical, and the overnight experience is said to be just that. A seven-room hotel within a spacious Queen Anne-style house in the Irvington District, The Lion and The Rose spared no decorating touches to envelope you in its spell. Vintage furniture, flowing draperies and designer outfitted rooms are just the beginning.

CITYSEARCH: Rated "Highly Recommended". This huge Queen Anne home stands out, even in the upscale historical Irvington neighborhood. It was built in 1906 and the decor remains true to the era. The moment you walk through the door, you feel as though you've entered a different world. ... The place is decorated with period carpets and antiques, and the rooms are beautiful as well as comfortable.

FROMMER'S GUIDE: This imposing Queen Anne-style Victorian inn is located in the Irvington District; it is 1 block off Northeast Broadway and within walking distance of several good restaurants, which makes it an appropriate choice if you want to keep your driving to a minimum. Within 4 blocks are not only restaurants and cafes, but also a number of eclectic boutiques and a huge shopping mall. Yet, the Lion and Rose itself is in a fairly quiet residential neighborhood. Even if this inn were not so splendidly located, it would still be a gem. Guest rooms each have a distinctively different decor. In the Lavonna room, there are bright colors and a turret sitting area, while in the deep green Starina room you'll find an imposing Edwardian bed and armoire.

W GUIDES: A grand home is yours if you stay at this friendly bed and breakfast in the city's historic Irvington neighborhood. The house was built in 1906 and lives up to its designation on the National Register of Historic Places. Rooms are intimate and cozy, but still have that Victorian elegance. Be prepared to share some conversation with the other guests during breakfast, which is served at a large, antique table in a wood-paneled dining room.

GUEST COMMENTS:
"I would return in a minute. The inn offered comfort, quiet, elegance and ease. I slept on a four poster bed but could log on to the internet.I could curl up in a hundred pillows or call long distance FREE. Great hosts. Great location."
"We have visited Portland numerous times since our son moved there in 2003, primarily in the NW Quarter. He moved to the NE Quarter in 2004 but we continued to stay downtown or on the NW side. This time, he recommended The Lion & The Rose and the online site and personal service from the time of booking was exemplary. The wonderful home, antiques, history, gourmet dining, ambience and assistance of the owners is just the best you could hope for while vacationing/on business quests. Even if our son moves again, we'll go back to The Lion and the Rose because its neighborhood & the proximity to the light rail, and the total wonderful place that the B&B is makes it a true value in every sense."
"Absolutely flawless. My family used this B&B as headquarters for a wedding in Portland. It is terrific in every way -- even Aunt Berta said so! The innkeepers are fine, friendly individuals it is a pleasure to get to know, and they strive constantly to make your stay a perfect one. The home is beautifully decorated, a Victorian gem, and breakfasts are delicious, varied, more than plentiful, and made and served with great care. Recommended most highly."
"We got engaged in the Rose Room, April 15th 1998. We came back four and a half years later to celebrate our fourth anniversary. New ownership, but an even more enjoyable stay. We will be back for sure, but in less than four years. This weekend has been magical."
"The people were so friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding and the room was delightful. All the beautiful little details made the stay very special. "
"What a beautiful home and respite from our busy lives. Thanks for your hospitality and having a piece of history available for our enjoyment."
